Want to become more greener in 2022? Go Green in these 7 Step.
Acting for the common good and for the generations to come.
- Grow Your Own Holly
Native holly provides a source of berries that birds love to eat during the Christmas period. For us bringing holly into the home is an ancient tradition, a reminder that greener days are to come.
Native holly (Ilex aquifolium) can be bought in most garden centre, sow in your garden and you can harvest your own branches every Christmas.
- Get Involved with Local Conservation
Join Birdwatch Ireland and Irish Wildlife Trust. The support you give will allow them to continue protecting Irish Wildlife. In addition, you get a quarterly booklet that lets you know about the different projects going on in Ireland that protect biodiversity around Ireland.
Map out where you can allow some of your lawn go wild. Allowing this to happen allows native wildflowers to grow and bloom which will benefit Irish insects which then benefit our bird species. Cut once a year in September and remove the clippings to replicate a mini hay meadow.
- Get To Know Your Food
Start buying from the many local farm food producers . Remember buying Dirty Carrots means they are free from all Chemicals and taste much better and No Plastic !!1 Organic food like apples have no pesticides, supports local biodiversity, Irish jobs and generally have travelled less meaning fewer carbon miles. In addition, they generally have much more flavour and nutrients than mass produced food. The many wonderful local food producers in our county deserve our daily gratitude .
- Furoshiki
This is a traditional Japanese method of wrapping present in cloth and tying it off with string. This cuts down massively on single use wrapping as this sustainable method can be used again and again for Christmases to come.
- Repair don’t Replace
Repair your household items instead of buying more. By repairing you cut down massively on the resources you use and the amount of waste you produce.
- Draw Attention to Wildlife
Remind your local leaders that they need to make environmental changes to our laws and ways of life. These changes can help in the fight against climate change and ecosystem destruction.
