Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park are delighted to announce that they have been chosen by An Taisce as the Overall Winner of this Year’s Pollinator Plan for the second year running as well as first time winner of the Town Park Pollinator category. Tralee Bay Wetlands has also been awarded a green flag for the fifth time in a row.
The international Green Flag Award was awarded to 120 Irish parks, gardens, greenways and wildlife sanctuaries around the country today.
In the Republic of Ireland, An Taisce Environmental Education is the national operator, and has delivered the Green Flag Award since 2016.The Green Flag Award is a non-profit international accreditation program that recognises and rewards well-managed parks and green spaces.
This award acknowledges our Biodiversity Plan which focussed on creating over 20 natural habitats in the park. It has been a pleasure and a privilege for all the team to create these new habitats and now witness along with all our visitors the increase in population of insects, birds and flora and fauna in our Ecology Park.
It is important to recognise the contribution and continuous support of Kerry County Council, local community groups especially Transition Kerry and the continuous support from Local Authority Waters Programme (LAWPRO) over the past 5 years enabling us to develop the park.
We look forward to celebrating these awards with our colleagues in the Lakeside Café who have enhanced our visitors experience to the Park with their wonderful hospitality and great food.
‘I’d like to extend enormous well done and congratulations to all the staff at Tralee Bay Wetlands. Their passion for the site, and the hard work they put in to maintaining it, has led to an award-winning green space that is best in class when it comes to biodiversity. They do a phenomenal job every day making Tralee Bay Wetlands a stunning area for the public to enjoy and safe habitat for wildlife to thrive in.’
