Discover the importance of native hedgerows and trees, enjoy talks from leading experts, and even get hands-on with some tree planting. This engaging two-day event Connecting Kerry’s Wildlife: Hedgerows and Trees in the Kingdom offers a wonderful opportunity for communities to learn, share, and connect with nature.

Event Overview

📅 Day 1: Friday, October 24th
📍 Location: Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park, Ballyard, Tralee, Co. Kerry, V92 HH57

📅 Day 2: Saturday, October 25th
📍 Location: Local Roots Tree Nursery, Cromane

Featuring guest speakers from Notice Nature Ireland NPWS, Local Roots, Hometree, Hedgerows Ireland, and more, this event will explore the cultural, climate, and biodiversity value of Kerry’s native trees and hedgerows. ✨ All are welcome!

Day 1: Friday, October 24th – Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park

Agenda:

9:30am – 10:00am: Welcome & Registration (Tea, coffee, and scones served)
10:00am – 12:30pm: Session 1 – Talks and presentations from expert speakers
12:30pm – 1:30pm: Lunch (Sandwiches and tea/coffee provided)
1:30pm – 3:30pm: Session 2 – Discussions and interactive workshops
3:30pm – 4:30pm: Guided walk to explore tree planting projects at Tralee Bay Wetlands Ecology Park

Day 2: Saturday, October 25th – Local Roots Tree Nursery, Cromane

Agenda:

10:00am – 12:00pm: Workshops at Local Roots Community Tree Nursery in Cromane, including a biodiversity recording session

This session will offer visitors a chance to experience the Local Roots Tree Nursery in action, learn about native species propagation, and participate in biodiversity monitoring.

About the Project

Connecting Kerry's Wildlife is a collaborative initiative between Crainn Chiarraí and Kerry County Council Biodiversity Office, supported by Transition Kerry and the From the Ground Up Network.

The project is funded by Creative Ireland, the National Parks and Wildlife Service, and The Heritage Council, with project partners including Kerry Libraries and Crainn Chiarraí.

The overall aim of the project is to raise awareness of the value of our existing trees and hedgerows — highlighting their importance for climate, culture, and biodiversity. Hedgerows and trees serve as vital ecological corridors, connecting habitats and supporting wildlife throughout the county.
